Buttoned Down aims to recapture a new way of life - one that is rooted in culture, craft and community. It stands at an interesting intersection of local and global,traditional and innovative, classic and contemporary.
Parul has a design background – a Bachelor’s in Fashion. She wasn’t very sure of how to put all of her education into use – stuff like whether to opt for clothing or styling, or interiors, etc. So after her graduation, she worked with a couple of fashion houses over a period of 2 years before she started Buttoned Down. The only reason she started her business was because she felt she wasn’t able to utilize her creative energy in the right direction because of the restrictions imposed while working for someone – you have to follow their sensibilities, especially in the design houses, a lot of times there are limited budgets, something’s not possible because it doesn’t suit somebody’s aesthetics and sensibilities. That was a little frustrating for her as she kept wanting to do things her own way. That way, even if things didn’t shape up the way she wanted to, it would make her happy and give her that satisfaction to have given it a shot.
Buttoned Down is about slow living with sustainability at its heart. For them, just like for us folks at who made it, the process is as important as the product. Their story is a collective narrative of all the makers whose shared efforts culminate in a beautiful legacy.
